Chet Lowe
Senior Pastor of Calvary LIFE Church & Author

Chet Lowe was born and raised in the Bahamas, a place where his journey of faith quietly began. He grew up in a household where Christian values were lived out daily. His parents, Ira and Pam Lowe created an environment centered on love, faith, and service. Through their example, Chet learned what it meant to follow God in belief and how one lived and treated others.

That foundation influenced Chet deeply. He organized a Vacation Bible School in his family’s garage when he was seven. It was not a grand event, but it was sincere and reflected a growing sense of responsibility and devotion within him. That small step would begin a lifelong path of ministry and mission.

Chet also grew up alongside his siblings, Susan and Matthew. Their family bond shaped his early life and continued to impact his view of relationships, community, and the importance of walking through life with others.

Early Steps into Global Missions

Chet’s calling became clearer in his early teens. At thirteen, he participated in a mission trip to South Korea, where he helped build a church. The following year, he traveled to Liberia to help construct a school. These two early experiences gave him an understanding of global needs and confirmed what he had sensed for years: his life would be dedicated to serving wherever God led him.

1994, Chet married Andrea, beginning a new chapter marked by shared purpose and commitment. A year later, they moved to Liberia with their newborn child. The country was facing a brutal civil war. Rather than avoiding hardship, Chet and Andrea moved toward it, believing their role was to be present and serve in the middle of difficulty.

Faithfulness in a Time of War

Both challenge and deep commitment defined their time in Liberia. Despite the dangers and uncertainty, Chet and Andrea worked to build the local church and respond to needs in the community. Throughout their time there, they helped establish 17 churches. They believed in building more than structures—they were working to support spiritual communities in places that needed them most.

Chet and Andrea also launched Joseph’s Brethren, a ministry focused on rescuing children caught in war trauma. Many of these children were former child soldiers. Through the ministry’s efforts, more than 1,500 children were placed into foster homes and cared for in seven rehabilitation centers. These centers provided safe places for children to begin again, offering care, counseling, and stability.

As they served, their own family grew. One child was born before they arrived in Liberia, two were born while they lived there, and two more children were born after they returned to the United States. Later, Chet and Andrea welcomed four additional children into their lives through adoption and spiritual mentorship. Their home became a place of love and healing for more than just their children—a true reflection of their mission.

A Return to the U.S. and Continued Ministry

After returning to the United States, Chet joined Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale staff, where he had been a long-time member. He served there for nearly thirty years, leading ministries for various groups, including singles, couples, parents, foster families, and missions teams.

Chet also pursued a Master’s degree in Christian Counseling. This further equipped him to walk alongside people through life’s most difficult seasons. He understood that ministry wasn’t only about speaking to a crowd—it was about listening carefully to individuals, showing up in their lives, and offering wisdom grounded in Scripture.

In 2005, he founded Patmos: Reality Discipleship, a program focused on young adults and spiritual formation. Patmos operated in Florida, Brazil, the Bahamas, El Salvador, and California. Through the program, many participants grew in their faith and understanding of discipleship. One participant would become like a spiritual son to Chet, adding depth and meaning to Chet’s view of family.

Grief and Strength

In 2011, Chet experienced personal tragedy when his younger brother, a Navy Lieutenant, died in a plane crash at the age of 33. In the years that followed, Chet also lost his father and uncle. It was a time marked by sorrow but not by despair. Even as he processed his grief, he continued to serve and shepherd others.

Chet leaned on his faith and remained steadfast in his calling. He used his experiences to walk with others who were grieving, knowing firsthand the pain of loss. His response to hardship was not retreat but deeper engagement with the people he served.

New Ministry in California

In 2015, Chet and Andrea moved to Southern California. He became the lead pastor of Coast Hills Church in Aliso Viejo. His role involved guiding the church through a time of renewal and rebuilding, always with a focus on the people who made up the community.

In 2021, Chet was asked to take on a new role following the retirement of Pastor Jeff Gill at Calvary Chapel South Bay. Chet accepted the invitation and stepped into leadership. The church began a new chapter and was renamed Calvary LIFE, reflecting a renewed focus and vision.

Under Chet’s leadership, Calvary LIFE has embraced four core values: Learning the Word, Investing in Relationships, Following the Way of Christ Jesus, and Engaging Our World. These guiding principles shape the direction of the church and its mission in both local and global communities.

Chet and Andrea now live in San Pedro, California, continuing to lead Calvary LIFE as they remain faithful to the calling that has shaped their entire life together.

A Ministry That Reaches Out

Chet’s view of ministry extends beyond the traditional church setting. Calvary LIFE runs several outreach programs that serve people in tangible ways. “Feed His Hope” provides meals and essentials to those living on the streets of Los Angeles. “Jesus Loves Fig” is an anti-human trafficking ministry focused on the Figueroa Corridor. Other initiatives include prison outreach, beach evangelism, and various forms of local community service.

Pastor Chet Lowe also remains active in international missions. His ministry has taken him to South Korea, Brazil, El Salvador, and the Bahamas. Calvary LIFE currently supports more than 30 missionary efforts worldwide. The church’s global reach reflects Chet’s lifelong commitment to missions and discipleship.

He continues to provide biblical counseling, investing time in individuals and families walking through crisis, transition, or spiritual growth. For Chet, discipleship is not a one-time program but a way of life.

The family continues to be one of Chet’s greatest priorities. Alongside Andrea, he remains an advocate for foster care and adoption. Their home reflects their values, and their life together shows a consistent example of hospitality and faith.

Looking Toward What’s Next

In 2025, several key milestones will be recognized. It will be 30 years since Chet and Andrea began their life-altering mission in Liberia. Calvary LIFE will celebrate 45 years of ministry. Patmos will reach its 20th anniversary. And it will mark 10 years since the release of Chet’s book, Living Parable.

Even with these milestones, Chet doesn’t focus on past achievements. For him, the ministry is not about commemorating years but continuing the work. What matters is what lies ahead—the next chance to listen, the next person in need, the next opportunity to point someone toward Jesus.
